I always draw before starting a major piece of work. A small piece can inspire a number of larger ones, and I never quite know where this will take me. I’m attaching a drawing of lavender fields observed near a small town called Covarrubias in central Spain. I have been continually drawn back to this landscape. This mixed media drawing uses pen, pencil, pastels and watercolours. I have an article hopefully coming out in Stitch magazine this summer which looks at this theme. The textile is just one response to a series of drawings including this one.
A busy few days preparing my final submission for the Craft and Design awards. Now its full steam ahead for Chichester Art Trail which takes place on the following days, May 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th and 12th opening hours 10.30am-5.30pm. We’ll also open on each Saturday evening for friends and other visitors, so if you are in the vicinity, do call and see us. Textiles, paintings, prints, drawings and cards. This is my newest piece, “Downs near Goodwood” framed size 52cm x 73cm
I’m delighted to say I’ve got through to the final of this prestigious event, six textiles finalists voted for by the public, and I know many of my facebook friends voted for me, so really grateful. Any publicity helps us all. The textiles judge is Kaffe Fassett. There are 6 categories, each with six finalists. You can see all of us by following this link
This piece is called Magenta Fields which I’ll be submitting for the final stages. It was a private commission, so quite different to my usual style and colour range but I was pleased with it and happily so were the commissioners!
